Learn to hone your joke writing skills, increase your set lengths, and move beyond the open mic. In this class you’ll be lead through writing exercises with Aliya Brown, learn to navigate the business of comedy with Glen Tickle, and explore the booking process from the bookers point of view with Ryan Hill.
This 8-week class includes dedicated writers room time to work on you material with the guidance of skilled comics as well as your fellow classmates.
Aliya will be teaching 6 of the 8 weeks of class, with Glen and Ryan teaching one week each.
Students must be 18+ by the first day of class and must have graduated from Intro to Standup at ArtsQuest or have equivalent experience.
Aliya Brown
Aliya is a Lehigh Valley based comedian, writer, and producer who has just returned from performing at the Laugh Riot Grrrl Comedy festival in Los Angeles. She performs at various venues around the East Coast, including the ArtsQuest Comedy Platz during Musikfest, Aliya is the host and creator of the comedy game show, "Swipe Right: The Online Dating Games Show", celebrating its 4th year at SteelStacks.
Ryan Hill
Ryan Hill is ArtsQuest’s Sr. Director of Programming, having been at ArtsQuest since helping to open the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in 2011. He started the ArtsQuest Comedy Program at that time after having been an independent producer of comedy shows since 2008. Ryan launched both the Greater Lehigh Valley Filmmaker Festival and the SteelStacks Improv Comedy Festival, in addition to producing thousands of comedy shows, cinema screenings, drag shows, and many other events across artistic disciplines. He has taught Intro to Standup nearly every year since 2013.
Glen Tickle
Glen Tickle is a professional comedian who regularly tours the country. He has appeared on Dry Bar Comedy, PBS, and SiriusXM. Tickle recorded his first album (Yes, Really) and most recent special Glen Tickle Against the World Crime League at SteelStacks.
