Friday Headliner: STAND UP AND CLOWN

Clown Boss Chad Damiani directs a group of brave souls through their very first improvised clown show. Along the way, he ruthlessly teases, cajoles and drives them to abandon their intellect, embrace their foolishness and follow their dumbest impulses.

A glorious celebration of failure and the cruelest show in clown.

Chad Damiani

Chad Damiani has spent over a decade as one of the leaders and architects of LA’s modern clown scene – which combines clown principles with elements of character, stand-up and improvisation. His clown-improv duo Jetzo performed over 600 shows across North America – including traditional stand-up venues – and was featured in multiple TV shows and films. He was also a founding member of The Murge (the flagship show of the Idiot Workshop) and Two Pink Doors – which created the Two Pink Doors series for FX (available on Hulu).

Currently, he’s the creator/star of the STAND UP AND CLOWN – where he directs well-known stand-ups through their first clown show. He’s an ensemble member in the international clown variety show STAMPTOWN – which features some of the best alt comics in the world. He’s also the longtime leader of CLOWN ZOO – an all-star ensemble created during the pandemic that combines modern clown, improv and theatrical mask work.

Chad has performed his solo clown pieces all over the country – often at traditional stand-up venues. He’s appeared in various TV shows and music videos, including AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, DAVE, and TBS’s upcoming reboot of JOE SCHMO. Chad is also a Blacklist-winning screenwriter and worked as an announcer for World Championship Wrestling (this was a very long time ago).

Saturday headliner: Improvised Jane Austen

Improvised Jane Austen is a Chicago-based ensemble that uses Jane Austen’s tropes, themes, and language to create an unscripted romantic comedy set in Regency-era England. Improvised Jane Austen’s shows have been delighting 21st century audiences with a modern sense and sensibility for over 15 years. Come for the humor, stay for the heart!

Throughout the show’s run, Improvised Jane Austen’s has been Chicago Reader Recommended, named a PerformInk Critics’ Pick, voted Best sketch/improv troupe 2019 in the Reader’s Best of Chicago, and was most recently featured in Time Out, on WGN’s Daytime Chicago and CBS News Chicago.
