This free screening is part of Behind the Screens: Booking Films at an Independent Cinema, a program where students from the Film Society of the Literary Arts Department at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts explored the art of film programming with ArtsQuest Programming Manager Anthony DeSanctis. Through this program, students learned how films are selected, scheduled, and balanced between creative vision and distributor obligations, all while considering audience engagement. Their experience culminates in a free public screening of The Seventh Seal, where they will lead a discussion and Q&A, applying their newfound knowledge in a real-world setting.
Students in the Literary Arts Department at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts study over 100 films throughout their four-year curriculum. Using the Socratic Method—an approach centered on open-ended questions like why? and how?—they engage in thoughtful discussions, uncovering deeper meaning through conversation and analysis. The program fosters an inclusive environment where all perspectives are valued.
